Descended from the Seton's of Cariston family branch of the House of Seton, in the central region of Scotland, they descend from a son of George, 6th Lord Seton, who founded the Cariston family and who's son John Seton was a Captain in the Scots Guards in France and married a daughter of the Count of Bourbon.
